Questions
Everything people ask
I'm only in Shanghai for a few nights. Where should I go?
Open the home page on the night. It shows which clubs are free tonight and until when, any offers on the night, and the nights we sell tickets for. Pick one, open the club page for the address and go.
How does free entry work?
On some nights a club lets people in free if they arrive inside a window. Sign up for that night on THE LIST SH (the WeChat mini-app) with the code GL2NITE, then arrive before free entry ends.
Do I need to be on a list or book anything?
For free entry, yes: sign up on THE LIST SH (the WeChat mini-app) with the code GL2NITE and your name goes on the list. Do it before you head out. For a table, ask us and we put it under your name.
I don't have WeChat. Can I still get in free?
WeChat is the easiest way, and you'll want it in Shanghai anyway for paying and taxis. If you can't sign up, message us before the night and we'll try to get your name on the list.
What should I bring?
Bring ID that matches the name you signed up with. A phone with WeChat Pay or Alipay set up, some cash, and whatever the club's dress code asks for (it's on the club page where we have it).
How do I pay?
At bars and clubs: WeChat Pay and Alipay work with overseas cards added to the app. Bring some cash just in case. Any cover charge is paid at the door. Tickets on this site: pay by card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), Apple Pay or Google Pay. Alipay and WeChat Pay at checkout only work if your wallet runs on a local bank card or balance; overseas cards added to those apps get declined there.
How do tables work?
Tell us the club, the night and how many of you there are. We confirm the table and its minimum spend. A refundable deposit holds the table. On the night you order drinks up to the minimum spend, and you get the deposit back after the night.
What are ticketed events?
Nights run by independent organisers and venues; we sell the tickets. Pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Your ticket is a QR code on your phone. Bring ID that matches the name on your ticket. No refunds. If an event is cancelled, you get your money back automatically.
Do I need to speak Chinese?
No. Door staff and bartenders are used to foreigners. For taxis, copy the address from the club page and show the driver the Chinese.
How up to date is this?
Each club shows its usual weekly night, and the clubs' own posts on the day override it. The "Updated" time on the home page shows when we last changed it.
On the night
- Getting there
- Taxi and Didi drivers need the address in Chinese. Every club page has a copy-address button, so just show them that.
- Paying
- At bars and clubs: WeChat Pay and Alipay work with overseas cards added to the app. Bring some cash just in case. Any cover charge is paid at the door.
- Timing
- Nights start late here. Doors open around 22:00 and free entry usually ends around midnight, so arrive in time. Free entry ends at the time shown, or when the list is full, whichever comes first.
- The door
- On a free night, sign up on THE LIST SH (the WeChat mini-app) with the code GL2NITE first. Bring ID that matches the name you signed up with. You won't need a ticket, and you still get whatever deal is on.
